Bumper pool, the entertainment game for two or four players, is played on bumper pool tables which come in half the size of an ordinary pool table. They are either rectangular or octagonal in shape and have only two holes instead of six holes. It is because of the 12 bumpers found on the table that it is called so. Eight bumpers are found in the center of the pool table, while the remaining two bumpers are found near each hole at the extreme end. These bumpers defend the pocket when the opponent tries to bank the ball into the pocket.
Bumper pool tables are found in various sizes ranging from 48 to 54 inches and are made from a combination of solids and veneers or fine hardwood. Its top surface is covered with green felt fabric placed over wood or slate base while most tables have carved legs, apron and base.
